Kodi is a free, open-source media centre that runs on almost anything. With its official PVR IPTV Simple Client add-on, it becomes a full live-TV system with a channel list and TV guide.
What is Kodi and how does it work with IPTV?
Kodi plays local and network media. For live TV, it uses PVR (Personal Video Recorder) client add-ons. PVR IPTV Simple Client reads an M3U playlist and an XMLTV guide and presents them in Kodi's TV section.
Why pair Kodi with IPTV?
- One interface for live TV, your own films and music.
- Highly customisable skins and layouts.
- Runs on Firestick, Android boxes, computers and Raspberry Pi.

| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|

Kodi vs dedicated IPTV players
| Kodi | TiviMate / Smarters | |
|---|---|---|
| Setup | More steps | Very quick |
| Films & series sections | Via playlist only | Built in with Xtream Codes |
| Customisation | Extensive | Moderate |
| Catch-up | Limited | Easy |
If you just want TV, a dedicated player is simpler. If you love customising, Kodi is excellent.
