"Xtream Codes" is the name most people use for the login format behind most IPTV apps: a server URL, username and password. It's the quickest and most complete way to set up IPTV.
What are Xtream Codes?
The term comes from software once widely used by IPTV providers. Its API — the way apps request channels and guide data — became an industry standard, and the login format is still called Xtream Codes.
Xtream Codes vs a playlist
With an M3U playlist, the app downloads one big list. With Xtream Codes, the app talks to the server and requests what it needs: live channels, films, series, guide data and catch-up — separately and efficiently.
| Xtream Codes | M3U | |
|---|---|---|
| Login | Server + username + password | One URL |
| Films & series sections | Yes | Sometimes |
| TV guide | Automatic | Usually separate URL |
| Catch-up | Supported | Limited |
| Loading speed | Fast | Slower with big lists |
